Keep Christmas with You

What you thought we were done?  Nope, this song is also a must in my book.

Ready for their one more sleep 'till Christmas!

Double video day

Two songs today, because it's my Christmas Eve tradition to read the Nativity AND watch The Muppet's Christmas Carol.

The video clips in this are kinda out of order in my opinion, but it's still nice.

One of those songs that go on my Best Song EVER list, there's not a clip of it from the movie on youtube though.  This was the best I found.  It's not bad.:

Christmas Adam

Because Adam came before Eve.  Get it?
Give me a break I came up with that when I was a kid.  And still I think it's hilarious.....

I always looked forward to watching Sesame Street first thing in the morning every Christmas Eve.  I could expect to see the tree at the ice skating rink, and Big Bird learning to skate.  If you'd like to save this for tomorrow morning, I'll support that.  Or watch it tonight.  I have two videos tomorrow.  And yes, this is the full hour long Sesame Street special.

And so this is Christmas.

Full of sore throats and puke.

We will be having a lovely Christmas at home, as we'd rather not spread around this thing that Drama Queen brought home from school last week. She spent Sunday puking, and had horrible diarrhea the next two days, because she didn't want to throw up anymore.  It's got to come out of some end.  So Hazel learned today.  Yesterday night she kept fighting the vomiting reflexes and this morning before 10am I had three nasty nasty diapers to change.  One of which lead to her first outfit change of the day(she had two more) as well as her bed being stripped and me sneakily carting off her blankets with it because if she'd seen them it wouldn't matter what was on them or how they smelled, she'd scream as they went in the washer.  She held down some rice cereal at lunch so I tried to give her a little dinner a half our ago and it came back up leading to a pajama change. She was traumatized that some got on her hands.  The tears stopped as soon as I washed her hands off after that.

Despite a 4 hour nap, Mischief has decided that it is bedtime and is in there laying down very quietly, but I don't think she is asleep yet.  Yep she just came out grabbed her teddy bear and is watching kid shos.  I'm pretty sure she will be puking within the next few days.

So we canceled our plans to do the 3 hour drive up to Grandma Jo and Granddad's.  We will have a quiet Christmas at home.  And that's okay.

Away in a Manger

Some more MoTab for us all to enjoy, Mischief loves them.

O Holy Night

Once I somehow got talked into doing a duet with my sister for church.  We sang O Holy Night in a 2 part duet.  I'm an alto.....and I forgot my part(as in the notes not the words) like halfway through and we ended up snickering through the last bit of it as I tried to not sound terrible next to her lovely voice.

As someone commented on this, Josh Groban's voice seems to be made for the song.

Santa Claus is Comin' to Town

Have you noticed I have a thing for vintage versions that were recorded before my time?  I think they are marvelous.  Though the guy in the blue v-neck in this keeps making me think of Star Trek.  And I've never heard of Ray Conniff, I just had issues with other versions of this song on youtube.....

Fully clothed

Woo!!  This is HUGE.  It has been over 2 years since the scale said this.
And I also discovered that the iphone 4 weighs 4 ounces.

The LIfe and Adventures of Santa Claus

I highly recommend gathering your family and sitting and watching this together tonight.  Best claymation movie of all time. I am THRILLED that youtube has it because I haven't found it on DVD. Yes, not technically Christmas music, but the greatest Christmas movie.....

Found Jesus

Driving home from the grocery store:

"Look mom, dat one our church."
"Yes, that is one of our church buildings"  I then started to sing "We belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints" but got cut off by
"MOM!  What dat shiny ting?!"
"Shiny thing?  Oh, the sun behind the clouds?"
"No.  Dat no duh sun.  Duh sun not white. Dat white....*gasp*... IT JESUS MOM!"
"MOM!  I FOUND JESUS!  He up dere! He shiny, just like in my book mom!"

This morning I asked Mischief to get tights on under her dress.  It isn't super cold, but cold enough.  A few minutes later I asked her to get tights again as she went running past.  Then again a few more times over the course of 8 minutes.  The last time she says, "I DID, MOM!"  And sure enough she had gotten tights...they were wrapped around the baby doll she'd been carrying around.....specifics....

Mischief was helping me prep dinner, peeling the carrots.  I was slicing celery, I noticed a jerky movement and looked up in alarm.
"I no get me."
"Oh good, I was worried."
"I okay. We no have me for dinner.  If I get me then you no have little girl no more."

"Mom, I helping you make dinnah."
"Thank you!  I appreciate you helping."
"I like a princess helper."
"Yes, you are my princess helper."
"Not really.  My dress is dirty."

DQ:  "Don't!  It has an owie.  It stings."
Mischief:  "It stinks?"
"It stinks?"
"It stings, get away from me."
"I want to smell your arm."

It's Christmas Time/Sleep Well, Little Children

Clips from The Carpenter's Christmas special in here, though the song is from the album not the Christmas Special. I love Karen Carpenter's voice.

Cause you can never have too much of the Carpenters.  And because each of The Carpenter's A Christmas Portrait special is new to me as it was aired 6 years before I was born and youtube didn't exist when I was a kid. Expect more of this special on another day.

I love making toys. They are about as close to instant gratification you can get in sewing. I solved my problem with the Craggy Moor licensing issues by giving up mice. Yes they are super cute, but well, so are elephants, and Craggy Moor can not claim any bit of my pattern!! I just cut out ten more, which includes two custom orders. Perhaps one will be Mischief's as she asks which is hers every time she sees me working on an elephant. So maybe she will love one of these enough for it to appear in her stocking.

Morning has Broken

I love his whole Christmas album.  Let's not point out that he's Jewish.

Happiest Christmas Tree

Yes...I had to watch numerous videos to find this was the most acceptable to go with the song...

Pine Cones and Holly Berries

I'll have you know I looked hard to find this.  No other version is acceptable in my head.  Hate that it cuts out at the end!  My girls love watching the VHS movies we have of their Christmas shows.  (Thanks Aunt Dee!)  A song a day of Christmas I'll play!!

Mr. Man wanted to go to the gym, but since the guy coming to give our furnace it's yearly check up, called to verify location just as the Mr. was getting ready to go, I made him stay while a stranger was in our house.  A very nice stranger, at that.  Whom Mischief was terrified of for about 2/3 of the time he was here and then wanted to tell him her life story.  He had a lovely accent, something British.  If you live in Utah County, I highly recommend Western Heating and A/C.  They're awesome and considerate.

ANYWAY.  Then it was time to pick up Drama Queen from school, so we decided we'd drop Mr. Man off at the gym after we got her.  I had no desire to go to the gym, and the kids care wasn't open yet for the evening anyway.  We dropped him off and I started driving around, hoping the irrational Mischief (she was screaming if anyone make a sound) would fall asleep.  She didn't.  Instead I got questioned about where are we going, I want to go that way, what are we going to do, etc.  So I told them I didn't know where we were going, we were on an adventure.  Down the street, around the bend (I hate round-a-bouts), through the light, up the curving hill, and there appeared, a park!  I had thought about driving around the lake, but then this park appeared.  So I pulled in and parked and as we unloaded Mischief gasps in delight and tells me, "It Barney land park!!"  Apparently in her little head it looked just like the (or a) playground in one of the Barney episodes she watched this morning.  Okay kid, sure, yes, our adventure led us to Barney Land.  So she ran around trying to find Barney.  Oops.

The play equipment, despite being labeled for ages 5-12 years old, was PERFECT for my children.  All three were able to happily and easily get around on it. That does not often happen with these modern playground structures.  Mischief even went down the twirly slide a few times, a rare event indeed.

Then Drama Queen decided the little hill just beyond the play area was more interesting, so we headed that way.  And they ran up and down it, then we rolled down it and I spotted....a perfect climbing tree.  My girls don't climb trees, there just aren't any good climbing trees where we live.  They've been in their Uncle Nathan's apricot tree, but that's not the same as climbing a tree.  So Drama Queen, with a bit of encouragement, decided to try climbing it.

But was a little scared, so she ran off to play on the hill a bit more and I stuck Hazel Mae in it.  Which she though was cool long enough for me to take a picture, then she wanted to return to the playground, where she proceeded to climb up one of those ladders that is arched like a bridge, you know where the rungs are like over a foot a part and stretch from the ground up to a platform at least 3 feet off the ground.  No pictures, I was busy spotting my precocious little one.  She made it, up until the pass from the last rung to the platform, where she would have then dropped straight to the ground (possibly whacking her chin on the platform) except that I was right there and set her up where she wanted to be.
By the time I turned around, I discovered Drama Queen had gotten brave AND figured it out!

I followed after this little one, while Drama Queen tested her bravery as to how high she was willing to go (and the way this tree is, you can make it all the way to the top, much like the pine trees I grew up climbing)

Ah, a girl's first tree, one of the best things ever!  She got a few branches higher than this, but not by much and not for long.  She requested we return to this park, and informed me she was going to bring her helmet.  Okay kid, what ever makes you feel more secure.
I eventually decided daddy would be nearing the end of his work out, partly due to the fact that it'd been almost an hour, and because the middle school boys attempting to climb the other evergreens, kept casting slightly envious glances toward the tree DQ was in, and were betting who could go highest in it.  So off we relinquished it and they quickly moved in.  Hazel Mae was NOT impressed with this decision to leave and I literally carried her, kicking and screaming, to the car.  She then proceeded to scream most of the way to the gym, stopping only when her sisters started giggling every time a scream would end in a little squeal.
It was fun.

We will return to adventure again at Barney Land Park.

Trimming the tree

This was our Sunday activity.  And yes, they put them all mainly in one side and it eventually easily fell over as Hazel tried to pull an ornament off that side.  She hasn't really been near today.

She was quite delighted by her first Christmas ornament.

"Dis comed from DISNEYLAND?!"

Facebook is so lonely today and regular tv programming is non existent. I am tired and would go to bed, but an elf showed up at our house last night.  The girls named him Marley (Drama Queen's suggestion, Mischief was not a huge supporter.  She wanted to name him "Bear" or "Lion".)  Drama Queen is excited to find where he will be in the morning.  The other reason I can't go to sleep yet is Drama Queen lost a tooth this morning.  Oh the work of a mom to keep up these lies.  I imaginative fun things.... Drama Queen left a note to the tooth fairy requesting a gift instead of money...Any day but today and I could run to the dollar store right now and pick up something cheap.  There is no way I'm fighting Black Friday shoppers for a cheap toy.  Perhaps the tooth fairy will leave her a note about not stepping on Santa's toes....

Thanksgiving Break Campout

I decided to make Thanksgiving break as busy and fun as possible.  It started with them working on sewing their own elephant toys.  And tonight they get to campout in the play room.  We made a tent, and they are sleeping in it in their sleeping bags, playing with flashlights.

In other news, I went ahead and upgrated to paying google $2.49 a month so I have more storage space, as I've filled my 1GB of storage space in Picasa web albums.  I have no desire to change blogs yet again.  I don't know if I'll ever remember the sign in info for the old blog when one day I can get it printed, as these blogs ARE our family history record.

I've had a cold for a week.  Hazel and Mischief are starting to get it as well.

I'm not overly looking forward to Thursday.  We're going to my Aunt's as we usually do, doesn't sound like many will be there though, not even all my cousins of that family.  Oh well, at least we have family to be with!  I'm pondering whether to make some gluten free stuffing and side dishes or not.  I should or Ava may not have anything besides turkey to eat..  You know, because green bean casserole has cream of something soup, which has wheat.  Gravy?  has wheat.  Stuffing?  that's a no brainer.  But then the child eats very very little lately.  She let me feed her at dinner for a little bit so I shoveled in as much quinoa as I could as it was the healthiest/most nutrition dense thing we were having.  Otherwise she had half a pear and a few bites of cereal today.  And chocolate milk.

Friday, November 9, 2012

I'm resisting posting a Christmas song today.  I'll hold off until day after Thanksgiving for that.  But wow is the snow coming down.  I love it!  It rained last night and this morning then around 10am it changed into snow.  Mischief wants to play in it, but refuses to wear more than a diaper and shirt today.  (Food allergy issues required reverting to diapers for mom's sanity and the smell of the house`).

It has been snowing for almost 5 hours straight, it took about an hour or so before it started to stick.  My poor parents are driving from CA to here today, not so cool for them.

Hazel Mae is teething. 4 teeth are working their way out, two of which are molars. This means screaming and restlessness at night and long naps during the day. Her not me. But I sure could use those day time naps. Drama Queen got to play hooky on Wednesday because I just couldn't function. I started waking up at around 2 in the afternoon finally. Today is not quite that bad, but close. And we get to walk in the rain!

It is a very whiney week on my part. I don't appreciate the older two yelling at me to wake up at 6 am when I've barely been asleep at all. Not to mention that the sun is nowhere near up at that time. My stomach has been hurting me and that is in addition to menstrual cramps.

My parents are coming up to Utah today, so that is happy.

Here are some pictures from my phone that I don't think I have posted here yet.

Remember all those great Christmas present ideas I was thinking of for what Mr. Man's parents could give us?

I've been completely over ruled.

It seems we will have a Wii in our home before the year is out.

Acorn Hunt

Though it's a little late in the fall, we finally did our acorn hunt.  We left for school an hour early, as the oak trees are on the way to school, sort of.  There is a hospital near Drama Queen's school, and it has a trail going around it, and on a few parts of the trail there are oak trees.  The girls were all excited in theory.  Once we were there though, Drama Queen had little interest in the activity, and after tossing a few acorns in the basket she instead amused herself with attempting to climb trees, though was not pleased that I wouldn't help her into them. I inherited the get in the tree yourself rule that my mom had for us.  Mischief wandered around a bit filling her pockets with acorns and playing in the leaves.  Eventually both Drama Queen and Mischief started pretending they were squirrels, which was quite entertaining.

Hazel Mae on the other hand, oh this child is just such a delight, she loved it.  She loved it to the point of having no discrimination as to the condition of the acorns or acorn tops she put in the basket.  She threw all she could find into her basket and then lugged it to a new spot.
Every so often she'd say "Yay!" and clap her hands

She filled it up almost all by herself!  And then screamed when it was time to continue on the way to school so Drama Queen could have breakfast before class.  Of course Mom got distracted by discovering there was also a walnut tree over there, so we gathered a bunch of those as well.  Still got her to school in time for breakfast.
