Happy Thanksgiving

As we have done, I think, every year we have lived where we do now (except the year I was sick) we went to my Aunt's house for dinner. I greatly appreciate that they invite us to come because I enjoy having lots of people around for Thanksgiving dinner. So it was all of their family plus mine. It is nice that my cousins kids are about the same age as mine, they enjoyed playing together, even Sunshine did!

My turkey is hiding under my ham.
A cousin trying to teach Sunshine a finger trick.

We are so very thankful for so many things!
Our Thankful Turkeys.  You can't tell, but each feather (and finger) has something each person was thankful for.

Dollhouse Fun!

Last week Drama Queen came home from the school library with an origami book and proceeded to be bored with it after doing all the projects in one day.  This week she came home with a book that was very exciting because I remembered it from my own childhood, and we immediately got to work.

then we did a bit more.  And i am sure there will be more to come!

Simple Gifts

Today I gave the girls pieces of card-stock to decorate as birthday cards for the neighbor.  Mischief also returned to me with her little hand clutching what appeared to be a wad of fabric, I could see an edge peeking out.  She told me she also had a present to give our neighbor grandma.  I cautiously asked her what, thinking it might be a small rubbery toy that their cat would accidentally eat, but she informed me that it was a rock. We added it to the pile and it brought back a memory of when I was a kid, I used to give rocks as gifts.  I have a clear memory of hurriedly searching through our yard for rocks to fill up an empty candy box to give to a sibling for their birthday when they got home from school.

So a rock wrapped in a little fabric scrap, totally acceptable gift in my opinion.

Where's my awesome?

I am working on lowering my expectations for myself, because when I dont meet my exectations I spend a week(ok more like month) in why-bother-doing-anything-then mode.

My bed actually got made 3 times this week.

I actually did school with the girls two days this week and I made them sit down with me to read two books each before they could watch tv today.

We went to the elementary school early for pick up one day so we had time to walk around the school and then swing on the swings before heading to get daddy.

And I worked on some needle felting. Started on my sister's request, and made a second penguin for my girls.

Took "things to copy" pictures at Target today.

Otherwise I did dishes. And the girls and I watched tv. Tomorrow I will try to find my closet once I hit up hobby lobby for some flesh color pipe cleaners and cream color thread. And I will order the fabric for Hazel's quilt. And cut out doll clothes for Christmas presents.

Vintage Style

I'm obsessed with vintage these days (okay the last year or so)...yesterday as I looked for pictures of veteran relatives in the photos my father gave me, I came across a whole slew of pictures from my grandma's(dad's mom) childhood.  Which are fabulous of course because it's in the 30s and 40s... and that of course leads me to want to take more vintage style pictures of my darlings.  Sunshine was not so much in a lets go with what mommy wants sort of mood, and didn't want to believe me that her face needed washing.  Mischief, as almost always, was game.

My grandmother

Great Grandma and Grandma(this is the grandma Sunshine is named after)

though I don't have a Shirley Temple era dress for Mischief yet (my pattern selection in her size is very lacking), we decided to put her in her school girl outfit, and do her hair like Grandma's.

It was fun.  I'm looking forward to getting Sunshine to co-operate since she's named after, and has hair much more like my grandma.  And sadly neither of these two ever got to know her though I do have a picture of her holding baby Mischief somewhere...

Thank you

to all the veterans out there.

My Uncle who was Air Force and then Army (or was the the other way around?)
And My grandfather who was a POW in WWII.

My great grandfather (and my two eldest brothers) who served in WWI.

A little visit, a little chat

My parents showed up at my house on Saturday morning.  They live 2 states away....not a planned visit, more of a 'well we have all this stuff to take up to the kids...and since dad had to sit around anyway...' sort of visit.  My dad tore/ruptured his Achilles tendon last week.  So they came bringing many treasures and clothes for the girls and vintage delights for me.  Including a big box of fabric scraps from my grandma's garage.
We had dinner at my brother's house on Sunday.
My mom and Sunshine.

My brother and his youngest.

My daddy and Sunshine who was cold from playing outside without a coat.

Grandpa couldn't get around much. Hopefully they'll get him fixed on Wednesday (that's when his appointment is)
Then on Monday I went over while Drama Queen was in school to tie Mischief's cowgirl blanket.  My mom and dad found the perfect fabric at Hobby Lobby in California and used their coupon to buy what was left on the bolt.
My mom and sister-in-law starting on the quilt.

pins to mark where we were tying since we didn't want to tie directly on the pictures.

Yep, I worked on it too!  We got it all tied and now I just need to bind it!

I was surprised today to realize that even though it is November my neighbor's rose bushes are all still blooming.  Other than a day or two of light drifting snow it's been a fairly warm fall.  It was even in the 60s today.  It's supposed to drop down to the 40s by the weekend though.

And I already got started on a quilt with grandma's fabric scraps.
I'm styling it after this quilt which is one of my favorite quilts ever.  Every time it's in a picture Posie Gets Cozy (which is frequently) I just oogle over the pictures...
